Grant Featherston R160 Contour Chair
Grant Featherston may not have received the same celebrity status as some of his contemporaries but his designs are just as iconic. His R160 Contour Chair is instantly recognizable and a peak of classic modern design. Our reproduction has been lovingly made to mirror the original. The comfy chair is fully upholstered in soft cashmere with a button detail. The legs are made from ash wood. The chair comes in a choice of several colours including the popular Turquoise blue.
The story behind the Grant Featherston R160 Contour Chair
The R160 was designed in 1951 as part of Grant Featherston's Contour series, which was inspired by organic forms in nature. The collection follows the natural curves of the human body and features clean, sculptural lines. It has become an iconic series in Australian furniture design. Featherston's furniture range also includes the Featherston Dining Chair and the Featherston Sofa.

ABOUT THE DESIGNER
Grant Featherston
1922-1995 (Australia)
Grant Featherston was born in 1922 in the south Australian state of Victoria. Self-taught, he designed lighting and glass panels before serving in the army from 1940-1944. He returned to Melbourne after the war and in 1951 created the first of his famous Contour Chairs. He opened Featherston Contract Interiors furniture showroom in 1956. His designs received many Good Design Awards and he is represented in the collections of National and State galleries and museums.
